January 7, 2023: week in review

A new week has come to an end.  Here’s what’s been going on my way this week:

1. Matilda the Musical.  My daughter and I spent Monday on the couch watching Matilda the musical (after I showed her Matilda the movie from 1996).  The musical is on Netflix and here’s what I took away/the message that I loved most– you can change your story.  One of the songs’ lyrics (“Naughty”) goes, in part, as follows:

Just because you find that life’s not fair, it
Doesn’t mean that you just have to grin and bear it
If you always take it on the chin and wear it
Nothing will change

Even if you’re little you can do a lotyou
Mustn’t let a little thing like little stop you

If you sit around and let them get on top, you
Might as well be saying you think that it’s okay
And that’s not right And if it’s not right, you have to put it right.

Matilda decided within herself that she didn’t have to accept the story that was being written for her, regardless of the family she was in or how she was treated by others. Sidenote. I love a movie with a bigger message. I talk about some of the lessons from Encanto on episode 51 of the Best Today® Podcast, you can listen to that here or here if you’re an Encanto fan.

2. New Office. I moved into a bigger office space this week after outgrowing the first in less than three months.  My prediction (and hope) is that I will outgrow this one and be ready for our own building before the end of summer.  I’m excited for more space as we prepare for more in 2023.

3. MORE. Speaking of “more” I think that is my word for the season.  I say “season” instead of year because it may change before the year ends and it may last past this year.  More time spent in bible study, in God’s Word, writing, journaling, praying.  That’s the primary “more” that I am focused on over the next 14 weeks (I go by 14 weeks because I document this in my Best Today® Guide which goes through 14 weeks).  So far it’s been easy to add in more of this by trading it with less time on or around my phone.  The benefits are … I don’t even have the words. Worth it.

4. LIBRARY DAYS!  Library days continue!  I take my children to the library each week and we all look forward to it. We travel around town to a different library, although we have a clear favorite.  If you live in Greenville, SC I bet you can guess our favorite. It’s likely yours too!

We missed last week while traveling so this week felt extra special. Sharing two books that we picked that I’ve enjoyed below.  I would love to hear some of your favorite books to read with your children in the comments.

5. 5 minutes every morning that have been well spent are writing out how my day will go and defining what matters today and what does not. I do this in my Morning Page in the Best Today® Guide but you can do this in a blank journal if you don’t use the Best Today® Guide.  Some mornings I don’t get to my longer journaling until I get to my office but taking the time when the house is quiet to do my Best Today® Guide morning practice has been calming, grounding and aids in living my days with intention.

6. YES to adventure and connection. This week I also planned a spontaneous trip to New York with a friend and I am so excited to spend time connecting with a friend who I haven’t met in real life to date! Sometimes those internet friendships that have developed for years finally get to go offline and I am so excited I said, “yes” when she mentioned that she was going to New York for an event and had an extra ticket! I’m sure I’ll share all about it when we return!

Last year I was extremely intentional about spending more face time with friends and family and I did just that and that will continue this year as well.

7. This week at Best Today® we launched four new products to help our customers plan their days and weeks and clear their minds so that they can move throughout their day without ideas, thoughts and the like racing inside their mind. I also shared a life lesson from my 30’s on the Best Today® podcast this week in episode 96, I would love for you to listen. It’s a lesson worth sharing and learning!

And that’s been my week: moving into my new office space, product launch at work, time spent with my littles, oh and of course this post, my first week in review here on the blog! Thank you for reading this far down. Hopefully you didn’t skim to the end because you may have missed something good in the middle! Until next time!..
