February 24, 2023: 2 Weeks in Review

Let’s catch up. The last two weeks have kept me moving. For this two week recap I’ll divide things up by: Home, Work, and Everywhere Else.

Home.

the kitchen

I did my quarterly kitchen sweep last Saturday, you can listen to all the details on what I do here on episode 15 of the Best Today® podcast. The short version: a kitchen sweep is where you take inventory of what’s in your freezer, deep freezer, and pantry to remove anything that’s expired and to make note of what you have and cook/eat that before buying more things (the more you do this, the less likely you’ll have anything expired).

I was able to reschedule our Butcher Box to skip this month because we had so much meat in the freezer. I also was able to meal plan based on what we had which decreased that week’s grocery bill. I’m still reaping the benefits of the kitchen sweep, which is usually the case and why I do it quarterly. I highly recommend it, it helps you save money, spend less on groceries and stay organized in your fridge, freezer and pantry.

I used my Clear Your Mind Pad to list out everything. Even though I created the Clear Your Mind Pads I am shocked at how often I use them. I use them for things I didn’t even think about when I created them. They really are a helpful tool to have handy and they come in two sizes.

the office

I also decided to rearrange my home office now that I have an office outside of home. I still use the office space but I noticed that the family was turning my office into a dumping ground since it isn’t being actively used and I wanted to put an end to that. I moved my desk in a nook in the office where the guest bed used to reside and now I’m wondering why I didn’t do it all along. It makes the work space very specific (I don’t need as much work space now that I’m not working there during the day on the regular) and I love how it feels and looks.

I moved the guest bed to the center of the room and moved a few bookshelves around and the room feels larger, my son said “it’s so clean!” and it stays that way because everything has a place and there is no place to drop something and hide it. No more using my office space as a dumping ground. I’ll also be using the office more as I am in a full season with work and will be at my desk at least two nights a week working a few hours before or after dinner.

Work.

I hinted at this in my January in review post, but I am beyond excited to announce our new journal on Monday, February 27th! I’ve spent the past two weeks finalizing everything—writing copy, recording video, editing videos, etc… in preparation. Journal prep has received a lot of my focus at work and now it’s almost time! There’s nothing left to do except share it with the world and then they will be available the first full week of March! Get ready! I’ll be able to say more in next week’s recap and share more!

A few noteworthy things from work the past two weeks— I led a talk with the women of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority last week as well, talking about how to execute on plans without procrastination and perfection, worked on edits for a product we have coming in the fall, and read through lots of speaking requests, I am so excited to see so many people face to face again throughout the year now that my speaking calendar is fully open (it hasn’t been since 2020 shut it down), but my focus has mainly been on the new journal and teams training. I’m opening up my calendar and schedule to work with teams and leaders of mission driven organizations. If you’re a mission minded company/organization, leader or member of a team, you can click here to learn more. I’d love to work with you!

Everywhere Else.

This week I won a year of tacos! Yup, you read that correctly. Thursday after Pilates my friend Mary invited me to the grand opening of a new restaurant in town and the first 100 people would win free tacos for life. Did I pack up my laptop and go? Yes, yes I did! I was number 45 and secured tacos for a year! Not bad for a Thursday! Pilates, tacos, and donuts! Did I mention they were handing out Duck Donuts while we stood in line? What’s more, when I got back to my office I was able to finish everything that I had listed for my results and outcomes except one thing (I finished it at home in my lovely new office nook).

One of my core values in life is freedom. Yesterday was a fun example of living that out loud. I had the capacity to change the plans for the day for tacos and lunch with a friend and it was worth every second! I had already defined what the most important thing was for the day in my Best Today® Guide and I made sure that it happened. It’s not every day that I can stop everything for tacos, but yesterday was one of those days and I’m grateful for a life where I can stop and eat the tacos (much more fun than smelling the roses. I have allergies!)!

Library days continue to be a favorite for us. My son’s favorite book from this weeks treasure is “Cat & Dog". Each week it seems that he picks two favorites from his pile and we read those evvveerrrrrryyyyyy night. Everyone in the house tends to know his favorites by heart by the end of the week.

On My Mind…

I finished Spare by Prince Harry this week and one (of a few) lingering thoughts that I have is that humans are too obsessed with the drama, chaos, and pain of others and if you really think about it, it’s sickening. The fact that people are so obsessed with strangers that they will spend money on print (or any media) that recounts drama, misfortune, pain, misery and the like of other people is enough to make you want to stop and take a long look at yourself and your life. I think about how much power would be lost from the British media if humans spent more time working on their own lives, their mental health, emotional health, physical health, financial health, spiritual health, any form of health rather than consistently consuming (mostly false!) stories about people they do not know.

My disdain for social media grows, and this added to the bigger picture that’s been on my mind.

What will it take for humans to realize the constant distractions in this world?

How long will they sit in lives that are miserable, unfulfilled, filled with envy, comparison, horrible health (mental, emotional, physical, financial) and still think that the most important thing to do with their lives and time is to consume and discuss strangers. It’s a distraction to destroy the masses. I am doing my part to call attention to it and help those who want to live differently. Who want intention. Who want to be well. Your medicine, your remedy is not found in being an onlooker to another human’s experience. That I know for sure.
