How to Create a Brand Around Who You Are + What You Love with Maghon Taylor of All She Wrote Notes
Episode 65 Show Notes
Maghon Taylor once thought that the only way to enter into the calligraphy space was to dim her personality down and stick with what she perceived as “fancy and elegant” hand-lettering; until, one day a friend told her that her style of lettering was so “fun.” With one word, Maghon felt permission to be herself unapologetically. She sat on her bed and started her company, All She Wrote Notes on her iPhone 4.
Maghon’s bold and colorful personality has taken her to places she never thought possible, including working with national retailers like West Elm, Neiman Marcus, Kendra Scott, Anthropologie, Swoozies and many more!
I met Maghon this year during one of her live hand-lettering classes (and we’ve since been speakers at two conferences so far this year) and it feels like we’ve known each other for years! I am so honored to have her as a guest this week on the Business, Life & Joy podcast.
Today Maghon is going to share how she created a brand around her personality and how she has allowed that to be her guide as her business has grown! She also shares her insights about transitioning her business from etsy to her own site, what she’s learned about creating unique streams of income in her business and so much more.
Tell me, what was your #1 takeaway from today’s episode? For me, I loved hearing the reminder to stay true to yourself because that is your real ticket to success! I also loved Maghon’s insights about looking at her site analytics and knowing it was time to transition to her own website versus etsy! I want to hear yours below in the comments or, my personal favorite, join me on Instagram @shuntagrant and share with me! And don’t forget to show Maghon some love and let her know that you listened to today’s episode over on her Instagram @allshewrotenotes.
Maghon Taylor is the she behind All She Wrote Notes, a calligraphy and hand lettering studio based in Elon, North Carolina. Her work has been featured on many blogs and publications and she was recently named Best Calligrapher in the South by Southern Weddings. Maghon has partnered to letter items and host events with national retailers such as West Elm, Neiman Marcus, Kendra Scott, Anthropologie, and Swoozies, as well as dozens of local businesses across North Carolina.
Maghon’s favorite part of her business is teaching and she has taught nearly 5,000 students how to spread happiness through their handwriting with her traveling lettering workshops. She is also the author of Happy Hand Lettering and has a second book in the works and an online lettering class releasing this Fall.
She is crazy about her business, but she most enjoys doodling around her home that she shares with her husband and middle school sweetheart Chris, and their one year old son, Vance.
